INGOA WHAKAPAPA
The name Kaikihikihi actually comes from the area in Te Kao where we grew up.
Kihikihi means cicada, or as we called them "kiss kiss".
As kids growing up, we were surrounded with cicadas.  In summer their mating calls were so loud during summer, it was deafening. They would feed on the
sap of the trees around home, and would shed their skins all over the tree trunks.
On a trip to Taiwan in 2000, I was fortunate enough to actually
make one, that I now make out of flax.
He tohu tēnā!!
